Hello!
It’s a magical thing to imagine something in your head and make it real. Transforming an idea into a brand, product, logo, pattern, or artwork is what inspires me to design. My name is Natasha Hanacek and I am a Maryland native currently living in the City of Brotherly Love. I’m a Graphic Designer and love to create using any medium that inspires me.
In college, I majored in Media Studies and Italian at The Catholic University of America. After studying and working in Italy, traveling through Europe, and road-tripping through Australia, I was inspired by the art and the landscapes in each place, what trades were prevalent, how businesses branded themselves, and how my eye was drawn to each of these things. I quickly discovered that the best way to tie my artistic skills, media education, and love for culture and language was through the art of graphic design, which I quickly returned to school for a degree in.
I currently work as the Senior Graphic Designer for the National Institute of Standards and Technology where I collaborate with scientists, researchers, and writers to create various artworks that highlight groundbreaking research, create brand materials, and oversees all graphic design products for multimedia use from conception to delivery. My work here is available at www.nist.gov.
I balance my day job with personal creative work. I love to work with my hands, the repetition and meticulous detail is rewarding and calming. I’m inspired by the variety in nature and culture discovered through my travels and utilize multiple mediums to create color-infused artworks. Textiles have always been my passion, from cutting up clothes, to creating patterns, knitting, embroidery, weaving, or dying old linen, painting, sewing, and illustrating patterns. Textiles inspire my own personal style in interior design, fashion, and graphic design work. I constantly strive to imagine new patterns, illustrations, and designs for personal and commercial use. In my free time you can find me traveling, rearranging my home, hiking, gardening, and cooking.
